The Evolution of the Vampire: From Demon to Saint

I was initially struck by the image of the vampire in classic film media: Bela Lagosi in his cape and fangs being driven backwards by the cross. The image was one of the demon being cast out by the power behind Christianity. A few years later I saw the same film, redone by Francis Ford Coppola, and the scene was completely different. Dracula, presented with the cross, ignited it into flames with a mere glance of telekinetic power.
